Our story so far…
Blockley Studio is a new initiative and we have run two workshops this Spring as a pilot project. We have been delighted with how they have gone and have loved watching people develop their creativity in the studio and around our garden. Below is a brief resumé of these first two workshops; if you’d like to be sent details of future workshops, please sign up below to our newsletter.
Ceramic Hares with Ros Ingram - April 2025
At our Ceramic Hares workshop, most participants were complete beginners, but it was wonderful to see how quickly, under Ros’s excellent tuition, hares began to emerge out of unpromising lumps of clay!
Each student chose a model to work from as a guide and during the morning learnt how to hollow out the body of their own hare.
After lunch in the garden, each hare gained a head, and by the end of the day six delightful and very characterful individuals were ready for firing. Congratulations to everyone on such impressive results and thanks to Ros for leading such a happy and satisfying day.
Garden Journaling with Emma Leyfield - May 2025
Most of the seven participants at our Garden Journaling workshop were also beginners, but Emma’s opening demonstration and introduction to the basics of sketching and painting from life really set people off with confidence. Everyone was provided with their own journal to take home, as well as the use of professional-quality watercolours for the day, and the morning was spent painting flowers in the studio.
After lunch (again in the garden), sketching and painting continued outside, while Emma moved around providing advice and encouragement.
The results at the end of the day were very pleasing and remarkably accomplished, and we very much hope that everyone will have the confidence to continue sketching, painting and journaling on a regular basis at home. Thank you, Emma, for a wonderful day!
